CREATIVE INFLUENCES ASSIMILATE FROM THE INHERENT SOCIO-POLITICAL ASSOCIATIONS OF STREETWEAR, RECONTEXTUALIZED BY A KEEN POSTMODERN SENSIBILITY

The idea behind Almost Gods, the streetwear brand founded in 2018, is rooted in founder Dhruv Khurana’s preoccupation with material archetypes of power. Having studied international relations and economics from Tufts University, it comes as no surprise that his creative influences assimilate the inherent socio-political associations of streetwear, recontextualized by a keen postmodern sensibility.

Deeply informed by the ability of individuals and institutions to shape culture and contemporary reality across temporal and geographic boundaries, the designs nod to oxymoronic observations around the human condition. In the prints, representations of these obsessions are extrapolated from striking images: belligerent but beautiful erupting volcanoes, heat maps, forest fire, and a map of New Delhi - where the brand is based. The unexpected compositions produce an effect that is as idiosyncratic as the Indian streetwear scene itself.
